The NYT Endorses DDT?

Via Flown to the Roll, I read that New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff endorses the use of DDT as a part of tsunami relief.

"If the U.S. wants to help people in tsunami-hit countries like Sri Lanka and Indonesia - not to mention other poor countries in Africa - there's one step that would cost us nothing and would save hundreds of thousands of lives.

It would be to allow DDT in malaria-ravaged countries."

Paul, at Flown to the Roll, has some comments that are quite pertinent. He also provides some links to some great background material on the issue (funny how the New York Times web guys didn't think of that, isn't it?).

Has the time finally come that even the left can shake off the junk-science that lead to the banning of DDT? I'm skeptical, but one can hope.
